Staicele and its rural territory are situated in the north-eastern part of the Limbaži district and borders on Estonia. The distance from the town centre to Rīga is130 km, to Valmiera- 62km, to  Limbaži- 45km and to Ainaži- 30km. The populated places Vīķi and Rozēni are situated in the rural territory. The territory is rich in forests, wetlands and water resources, with a variety of flora species (it is one of the rare nesting places of the birds), the picturesque Salaca river crosses the territory in the length of 30 kilometeres.
The beginning of Staicele goes as far as 1897, when the construction of the paper mill was started.
In 1997 Staicele was acknowledged to be the cleanest provincial town in the Limbaži district and in the state competition "Sējējs ’97" for the development of the civil parish Staicele got the first prize in the whole country. Staicele is outstanding for its greenery, for the nicely cleaned out banks of the river Salaca and the park. On the bank of the river there is an open- air stage „Zem ozola”, where a lot of wonderful festivities, theatre performances and concerts take place every year. The second Sunday in May is the day when the Salaca and the festival „Staiceles vimba” invite all the anglers - it is a manifold all the day long festivity with various competitions and amusement shows  on the water, at the end of which the King of Vimba is being crowned.
On April 28,2001, an unusual international society was founded in Staicele - The Stork's Organization of the European  Cities (ESCO) where 6 towns with a stork on their coats of arms were included (Stolina - in Byelorussia, Luka nad Jihlavon - in Czech republic, Komarovce - in Slovakia, Buska - in the Ukrain , Storkova - in Germany and Staicele - in Latvia.
The potential of the industrial development of the territory is mainly connected with reorientation of the Staicele paper mill. At the present moment it produces paper packing bags. Logging and woodworking are also developed there.
The future plans of Staicele are connected with the development of tourism. The nature itself offers exceptional possibilities for good rest near the river  Salaca, in the nearby woods, pine forests and wetlands. Now you can enjoy the above mentioned features while staying in the country house „Mačkalni”. Sports fans are welcome to visit and enjoy the modern sports complex with minigolf grounds.
The Liivs museum „Pivälind” acquaints you with the Liivs cultural heritage in the Salaca district and with the history of Staicele.
